Dr. Fitzpatrick is the President of the PSC. Dr. Fitzpatrick is a life-long equestrian who worked much of his life as a scientist. He helped develop a synthetic rubber that was used for making bullet proof gas tanks during World War II. Dr. Fitzpatrick flew 30 bombing missions over Europe (using the bullet proof gas tanks), then earned a PhD from the University of Massachusetts. Dr. Fitzpatrick studied the chemistry and biology of agricultural products, and distinguished himself by writing numerous manuscripts on the subject. Dr. Fitzpatrick retired in 1980 to focus on his true love, horses.
As a scientist, Dr. Fitzpatrick recognized a need for riding options for professionals like himself. In the Philadelphia area there were many horse lovers who wished to ride but didn’t have time to manage full horse ownership. He helped organize the PSC 17 years ago, and he has been the PSC President for the past 16 years. Although Tom no longer rides, Dr. Fitzpatrick still drives and competes in driving classes with his favorite PSC horse,Seamus.
PSC has 5 -7 horses at a time. There are horses suitable for intermediate riders as well as advanced equestrians. PSC horses are stabled at the Monastery Stables, on Kitchens Lane (http://www.philanet.com/Philadelphia/monastery_stables.html or http://www.monasterystables.org). This facility is located just off of Wissahickon Avenue.

Monastery also has a field containing a dressage ring and jumps. 75 miles of trails are available. Monastery also has several turnout paddocks for the horses. The PSC horses are turned out daily (see Monastery link, below). |
